It’s September now and I have a small update for the site. I’ll admit that this is a bit of a personal want of mine, but the types of “statuses” you could give your Pokemon in tracking them lacked one that I use constantly while playing through a game. That is, of course, needing evolution! Often times I’ll find myself on a Route that has the Pokemon I need for my Living Dex, and so to save time, I catch two or three. I would mark the ones I’ve caught-but-not-evolved with the “trade” status for my own bookkeeping while playing. Now, I can mark them with “evolve” and I hope that others find this temporary status useful. Here’s a screenshot of the new status.

In an even more minor update, I added a shiny Pokemon count and progress bar to the Profile page’s statistics list. The number of total shiny Pokemon including forms was pulled from a more authoritative list on Serebii and it’s possible that it doesn’t quite match up to our page’s list (ours may have HOME-invalid shinies listed as being possible, I need to audit). If you notice a discrepancy, please file a bug report on Changemap.

Future Possibilities

There are a variety of suggestions on Changemap, and I’ve read through most of them. I have a few ideas I’d like to attempt to implement that align in various ways with these suggestions, such as:

• Shareable Pokedexes

• Revamped Pokemon data, adding the following

  • Origin game

  • Ribbons & Marks

• Game-specific Pokedexes (often requested, and large undertaking, would be separate from HOME pokedex)

• Pokedex Export/Import

I have no timeline for the above as work on this site happens in my spare time and I’m still getting up to speed with the full tech stack. If you have other suggestions or want to add fuel to the fire of others, please hit up the Changemap.

That’s it for this update. Thanks for reading, and good luck on your Dexes!

— dormedas

Hello everyone, my name is dormedas and I’ve worked with Stephanie over the past few weeks in transferring the ownership of this site to myself. I am a user and contributor to this website, a game programmer by trade, and am currently trying to complete an Origin Living Dex. My primary purpose in taking ownership of the website is to ensure that it remains online and to relieve Stephanie of its maintenance. (Context)

Finances

The financial side of the website is also transferred. The Ko-Fi and Patreon have been redirected to my accounts as of the 18th of August. Considering this change, if any supporters there wish to cancel ongoing donations, I completely understand. I am vehemently against advertisements, and pledge to keep the site running without them in perpetuity. If you would like to, donations are appreciated to offset hosting costs.

The Future

I have a variety of feature improvements I’d like to make, but the purpose of the site remains the same. I am taking a look through the Changemap for features, so please go upvote or post what you would like there. The most prominent improvement will be some form of Winds and Waves support when that launches, even if Pokemon Home is not supported yet.

A note from Stephanie

Hey everyone! Thank you all so much for your support so far. I really appreciate all the encouragement, bug reports, and feature suggestions, and I'm looking forward to where dormedas takes the dex site in the future.

Thanks to the new developer team working with me to help keep the website running, we finally have out first new feature in a loooong time.

One of our new devs figured out how to program buttons that go to three of the popular wikis:

• Bulbapedia

• PokémonDB

• Serebii

I’m really excited about this, and so happy that the new devs are helping keep this site online.

If you’d like to get sneak peeks and previews of new features coming down the pipeline, consider becoming a supporting member on Ko-fi or Patreon.

Thanks to two new developers who have started working on the Pokedex app, we now have a bug fix! Getting more brains working a problem is always a good thing.

If anyone’s still seeing issues with this particular functionality, though, please don’t hesitate to reach out at livingpokedextracker@gmail.com.

-Stephanie

We’re starting to get our feet wet and figure out where everyone’s skills are, so we should be able to start squashing bugs and developing new features soon.

I hope for those of you that celebrated American Thanksgiving, that your holiday was restful and you enjoyed yourselves. I spent most of it trying to remind myself to rest and not overdo it, which is a pretty constant struggle for me.

In August of this year, I had a severe flare-up of the various symptoms of my chronic health issues, including carpal tunnel syndrome and all sorts of unhappy nerves and tendons in both hands, wrists, and arms. In September, I was flat on my face with Covid. Silver lining is that it forced me to not move a whole lot or use my hands, so… recovery was a bit easier there.

I’m doing physical therapy, trying new medications for my primary conditions, and I’m finally getting to see some of the specialists I set up appointments with a long time ago. The good news is that this means I’m recovering and slowly regaining functionality. The bad news, at least for the PokeDex site, is that outside of my day job, I have very little left over at the end of each day when it comes to use of my hands or general energy levels.

I’m really hoping that with the quieter period in my day job’s cyclical work and taking some time off work through December, I’ll be able to slowly start working on web programming again starting in January. I can’t make any promises at this point, though, as much as I wish I could.

Thank you all for your patience, for your support, and for sharing my passion for this great video game series.

Your friendly neighborhood web designer,
Stephanie

P.S. if anyone has HTML/CSS/JavaScript experience, I would welcome a collaborator. Please reach out!

I’m happy to announce that feature requests are now managed through Changemap! This should make it a lot easier for everyone to make new feature requests, comment on and upvote existing feature requests, and subscribe to specific tickets for updates on them.

Access the new Changemap here.

There may be a chance that Google Authentication will break on June 18, if I can’t get everything reworked by then. If this happens, you’ll still be able to log in via your email address.

If anyone has any trouble with logging in before then as I try to patch this, please let me know ASAP.

Thanks,
Stephanie

Here’s what I did:

• Scatterbug’s sprites were updated so there aren’t two versions anymore. Previously, the Icy Snow form had eyes pointing in a different direction than all the rest. Now, they’re all the same, so I’ve updated the standard form in the numbered dex and removed the alt forms.

• Sinistea and Polteageist now have their Phony and Antique alt form sprites showing the authenticity stamp, just like Sinistcha and Poltchageist. This isn’t how they’ll look in the box view in Home, but it’ll help with identifying which form they are.

• I reordered some alt forms to match Home’s order. If you have these forms set as caught or one of the other states (trade, place, Lv100), it’ll move correctly to the new order in the website, but you’ll need to move your Pokemon in Home to match.

  • Unown

  • Rotom

  • Flabebe, Floette, and Florges

  • Oricorio

  • Squawkabilly

  • Furfrou

• Pikachu and Rockruff both have their Normal forms listed next to their alt forms, for extra completionist happiness :)

As always, thank you for using the PokeDex App, and let me know if you see any issues with the alt form fixes!

-Stephanie

• Archaludon

• Hydrapple

• Gouging Fire

• Raging Bolt

• Iron Boulder

• Iron Crown

• Terapagos

As far as I can tell, Terapagos only has one form when it’s placed in Home, and the Terastal and Stellar forms are battle-only. If I need to add the other two forms and they’re visually distinct in Home, let me know!

Thanks as always,
Stephanie

That’s fixed now, and you should be seeing it on your end already.

If you come across any other bugs or broken stuff, please let me know! I’ll do my best to get them fixed as soon as I have time to spend on it.

-Stephanie

The one thing I’m not sure of is whether Ogerpon’s forms all show up in Pokémon Home. Since they’re item-based, I’m pretty sure they don’t, but please correct me if I’m wrong and I’ll get the various forms added in.

Thank you for your patience!
-Stephanie

The reason this notice is here instead of in a newsletter email is because when I’ve tried to reply to some of you via email, your email systems have kicked it back as undeliverable. This way, I can make sure everyone sees this.

Also, this is a passion project I maintain in my spare time for free. High-priority things like my day job (I got a new job! Yay!), chores, and freelance work will take priority. It may be a bit before I have the spare time to set aside for working on the Teal Mask update, since adding new sprites can take a few hours to get everything set up correctly and make sure nothing breaks.

If any of you are a developer with HTML/CSS and JavaScript experience and want to contribute to this site, please shoot me an email! I’d love to collaborate.
